Siena Women's Tennis earned All-MAAC Honors at the MAAC Awards Show before their tournament appearance. The Saints picked up a First Team doubles, two Second Team doubles and one Second Team singles honors.
Julia Dunbar and Rina Sakai earned All-MAAC First Team Honors for Doubles three. The duo was undefeated when playing together going 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in league play. The only two league matches the two didn't play in together was Marist and Rider.
Anessa Leyva and Ann Phillips took All-MAAC Second Team honors for doubles one. The two went 6-2 overall this season when playing doubles together including an impressive 4-1 league record. Leyva and Phillips only lost to Marist's duo of Julia Gabay and Sam Galu, who earned MAAC First Team honors.
Rounding out doubles, Ivana Boberic and Juliana Goehner took All-MAAC Second Team honors at doubles two. The two went 7-2 overall this season in doubles play and went 5-1 in league play. Boberic and Goehner have a three-match win streak at doubles two heading into the tournament. The duo only fell to Dominique Vasile and Proyfon Lohaphaisan from Quinnipiac, who earned First Team doubles two.
Sakai was named to the All-MAAC Second Team for singles four. Sakai went 12-8 overall this season in singles play and 5-2 against MAAC opponents. While she played anywhere from the two to sixth singles throughout the season, she mainly took the role of singles four and comprised an impressive 6-1 record at the spot. Her sole league loss at the spot was to Layla Rodriguez of Quinnipiac who earned the First Team spot.
The Saints also had a league-best six named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Seniors Ivana Boberic, Julia Dunbar and Rina Sakai along with juniors Anessa Leyva, Ann Phillipsand Natalie Weaver were selected to the team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
The Saints are set to take on the #2 seed-Marist on Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, New Jersey.
