Box Score Freshman pitcher
Ben Seiler had a career outing as Siena closed out a three-game weekend series at UNC Wilmington Sunday afternoon. The right-hander struck out a career-high seven batters and walked two in a four-inning no-decision, as the Seahawks completed a weekend sweep of the Saints with a 2-1 victory in Wilmington, NC.
Looking to salvage a game on the weekend and snap a three-game losing streak, Siena (3-10) struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Saints loaded up the bases for freshman
Evan St. Claire, who drew a walk to five the Green and Gold an advantage. Seiler put in multiple solid innings to get the Saints safely through the middle stretch of the game, with senior
Dylan D'Anna moving things along after entering in relief in the fifth.
After placing a pair of batters in play to kick off the bottom of the eighth, the Seahawks made their move, with UNCW's Greg Jones lacing a triple down the right field line that sent home a pair of runs and put the home team on top. With one final chance in the top of the ninth, the Saints had runners on first and second with one out, but were unable to put up any more offense. D'Anna dropped to 0-3 on the season after taking the loss.
Following its fourth straight non-conference weekend series to start the year, Siena will continue play on the road, heading to Ohio for a four-game weekend series at Bowling Green March 16-17.
