Competing against a Top-10 opponent for just the fifth time in program history, Siena Water Polo wrapped up its first-ever trip to Arizona with a 17-3 loss at #8 Arizona State Sunday afternoon.
Taking on the Sun Devils for the first time ever, the Saints were immediately stifled on both sides of the ball and held off the board completely in the second quarter and scoring just once in each other period. After going down 3-0 early on, freshman Georgia Vargas got the Saints on the board with a goal. Following an 8-1 ASU lead at the half, junior Diana Fernandez netted the other two Siena scores in the second half, with sophomore Sophia Torres and freshman Bianca Prinsloo each contributing an assist on the day.
Senior goalkeepers Kennedy Joseph and Nichol Feldtz each saw time in-between-the-pipes in the contest, with Joseph adding seven saves on the weekend to put her total at 21 in three contests and Feltdz making one more.
Following competition at the Sun Devil Invitational to conclude non-conference play on the 2019 season, Siena will head to another conference weekend, taking on MAAC foes Iona, VMI and Villanova in Brooklyn, NY, April 6-7.
