Baseball Hosts Fairfield in First Home Series of 2019

Miller Takes Aim at Program Wins Record in Series Opener

LOUDONVILLE, NY - After playing 23 of its first 24 games away from home to open its 2019 season, Siena Baseball returns to the Capital Region this weekend for its first home series this spring. The Saints are set to host MAAC foe Fairfield for a three-game set, which commences with doubleheader action Saturday starting at noon at Connors Park.

Joe Mixie has the call of both games online at SienaAllAccess.com. Viewers can catch all the action online for $7.95 via their laptops, desktops, and tablets, as well as on iOS (Apple) devices including those that support Adobe Flash 10.1 or greater (Android devices). Special features to the Siena All-Access platform include live stats, and pertinent related twitter and ticker updates. Additionally, all games are archived upon their conclusion and can viewed at any time thereafter through the on-demand feature.

Following a grueling early-season road trip, Siena (7-17, 3-3) is set to play 15 of its next 20 contests within the friendly confines of Connors Park. The Saints are looking to build off a key early-season road sweep at Rider last weekend, which moved the squad back to .500 in the MAAC with a bounce-back performance following a conference-opening weekend sweep at Canisius.

After setting Siena's career strikeouts record last weekend against the Broncs, senior ace Tommy Miller looks to make more history this afternoon. The local product from nearby Castleton, New York enters play tied with Dave Pahucki '02 for the program's all-time wins mark with 23 victories. Miller, who has secured a program record 228 strikeouts (and counting), also needs to record just three more outs to surpass Pahucki's career innings pitched benchmark which stands at 313.1. Additionally, head coach Tony Rossi enters the weekend just three wins shy of 900 for his illustrious career.

Red-hot Fairfield (13-13, 4-2) enters play winners of eight of their last nine, highlighted by a 10-3 rout at 22nd ranked UConn earlier this week. The Stags were predicted to finish sixth according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll receiving 64 votes, in being selected to place just ahead of Siena which was slotted seventh with 60 points.

Siena leads the all-time series with Fairfield 34-28, although the Stags have captured five of the previous seven meetings.
