Siena Basketball Cracks Top-100 in Attendance for 22nd Straight Season

Saints Ranked 94th Nationally, 12th in the Northeast Last Season

LOUDONVILLE, NY – For the 22nd straight season in 2018-19 Siena ranked in the top-100 nationally in Division I Men's Basketball attendance. The Saints stood 94th out of 351 programs, including second amongst all Northeast mid-major teams.

"Siena Basketball has been a staple in the Capital Region community for generations," said Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D'Argenio. "To continuously rank in the top-100 nationally – including near the top of the charts in both the Northeast and at the mid-major level – is a great testament to our loyal fan base and their unwavering support."

Siena trailed only Atlantic 10 school Rhode Island in Division I Men's Basketball attendance amongst all Northeast mid-major programs during the 2018-19 season. The Northeast is comprised of nine states according to the United States Census Bureau: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Mid-major teams are defined as programs from the 25 conferences which do not comprise "high majors," which are the Power 5 (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC), AAC, and Big East.

The Saints ranked 12th overall in the Northeast in average attendance, trailing only Syracuse, St. John's, Providence, Villanova, Penn State, UConn, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, and Rhode Island. Meanwhile, Siena stood 19th nationally amongst all mid-major programs in attendance.

The Saints drew an average of 5,859 fans over 14 regular season home dates at the Times Union Center last season. Including a pair of MAAC Tournament contests, Siena welcomed a total of 92,276 guests through the Times Union Center turnstiles in 2018-19 for an average of 5,767 spectators per game.

The Saints' average attendance last season out-ranked a dozen high-major programs including Power 5 teams Boston College, California, Oregon State, Stanford, USC, and Washington State, and exceeded the overall Division I national average of 4,659 by more than 1,000 fans.

Siena has drawn nearly 2.5 million fans over 380 all-time games at the Times Union Center, dating back to the program's first home contest at the facility during the 1990-91 season. The Saints welcomed their two-millionth fan on Dec. 23, 2014 against Cornell, and have drawn crowds in excess of 10,000 on 33 occasions.

Season tickets are on-sale now for Siena's highly anticipated 2019-20 season, and can be purchased by contacting the Siena Fan Relations Management Center during traditional business hours Monday-Friday at (518) 487-2202, online at sienasaints.com/tickets, or by e-mail at sienatickets2@siena.edu. Non-conference home tilts feature the season-opener vs. American (Nov. 5), the annual installment of the Franciscan Cup against sister-school St. Bonaventure (Nov. 12), a battle vs. defending Patriot League co-Regular Season Champion Bucknell (Dec. 21), and a New Year's Eve weekend matchup against Holy Cross (Dec. 29). Siena's complete 14-game regular season home schedule will be released following the announcement of the MAAC slate later this summer.

Excitement is high surrounding the Saints entering the 2019-20 season under the leadership of new head coach and alumnus Carmen Maciariello '01. The Saints are set to return 10 letterwinners from last year's team which posted a 17-16 overall record and finished tied for second in the MAAC with an 11-7 league mark.
