LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Athletics is proud to join Sock Out Cancer in their mission to assist financially distressed cancer patients and their families when the Saints host Fairfield Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Times Union Center. Sock Out Cancer will be selling their signature multi-color socks at the game, with net proceeds equally benefiting the Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital and the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Albany Medical Center and the St. Peter's Cancer Care Center.
Â
"People may not realize how overwhelming costs can be when a patient is fighting cancer," said Bruce W. Boyea, Chairman and CEO of Security Mutual Life. "And that's why Sock Out Cancer was created – to help cancer patients who are struggling financially so they can better focus their energy on fighting cancer."Â
Â
Recognizing the enormous emotional and financial strain and other challenges cancer brings to afflicted patients and their families, Sock Out Cancer, LLC, is a nonprofit initiative whose mission is to assist financially distressed cancer patients and their families pay for non-medical necessities such as food, transportation and housing so patients can focus their energy on fighting cancer.
Â
Sock Out Cancer will have tables at each entrance selling socks for $10 to benefit both Albany Med and St. Peter's. Two Siena College students who both purchase and wear socks at the game will be randomly selected to participate in a halftime shooting contest to win a $500 scholarship.
Â
There are many types of cancer, represented by more than 25 different colors. The Sock Out Cancer logo—a pair of multi-hued socks—symbolizes the fight against cancer in all its forms. Community-based fundraising efforts and the sale of Sock Out Cancer socks help raise public awareness of the financial challenges facing families fighting cancer. Socks can be purchased at Friday's game as well as online at sockoutcancer.org.
