CAMBRIDGE, MA– Siena Water Polo (6-6) got back into non-conference action with a doubleheader split to begin action at the Harvard Spring Invite in Massachusetts, Saturday afternoon. The Saints completed a season split over Salem University with a 15-13 win, while narrowly falling to #22 Bucknell, 12-11.
Off to its best 12-game start since 2007, the Saints took the pool for the second time this season against the Tigers and pulled out to a 4-3 lead after one period. The Saints had to withstand a run from Salem that knotted the match at 11 entering the final quarter, but outscored their opponent, 4-2, in the final eight minutes to walk away with the win.
Senior Diana Fernandez captured five goals in the match, while sophomore Bianca Prinsloo went for four and freshman Danni Croteau also added a hat trick.
The Saints then re-took the pool later in the evening to do battle with the Bison for the second time this season as well as their second ranked opponent of 2020.
Bucknell broke out to a three-goal lead to begin the match, ultimately outscoring the Green and Gold, 6-1 in the first quarter and 8-3 at the half. The Saints found their offensive strike in the second half, tacking on three goals in the third period and five in the fourth, but a goal in the final seconds wasn't enough to complete to the comeback.
Siena will conclude action at the Harvard Invite, as well as non-conference play on the 2020 season with a match against Connecticut College on Sunday, March 8. The match is set for 8:00 AM.
