LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Women's Soccer is set to honor its nine-member Senior Class when the Saints host Quinnipiac on Senior Day Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hickey Field. Senior Day festivities are set to commence at 12:45 p.m.
The nine-member Class of 2022 for Siena (6-7-1, 4-2) has already collectively enjoyed a decorated career donning the Green and Gold, highlighted by a pair of MAAC Championship Match appearances over their first three-plus seasons, and capped by a MAAC Regular Season and Tournament Championship this past spring. The nonet has led the Saints to 27 overall wins including 16 MAAC victories heading into their penultimate regular season home match.
Siena would love nothing more than to celebrate its seniors by picking up a pivotal victory, and bouncing back from a tough 2-0 setback vs. Niagara. Wednesday's defeat against the Purple Eagles snapped the Saints' three-match win streak, as Siena had also entered this crucial week of MAAC competition unbeaten in five of their previous six matches. As a result, the Saints enter Saturday's showdown currently tied for fourth with Niagara in the MAAC Standings with 12 points with four matches remaining. The top-six finishers qualify for the MAAC Tournament.
Meanwhile Siena is set to face another stiff test vs. a Quinnipiac squad (10-2, 5-1) which enters play in second place in the MAAC, and winners of five straight, during which time they've outscored their opponents by a 14-1 margin. The Bobcats are led by reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year, MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, and three-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Rebecca Cooke, who enters play tied for sixth nationally in goals (12) and tied for 16th in points (26). Cooke is the catalyst for a potent Quinnipiac offense, which ranks 21st nationally in scoring offense (2.67), in addition to standing 30th in the country in goals against average (0.66) for head coach Dave Clarke. The 22nd season leader of the Bobcats secured his 200th career head coaching victory Wednesday, matching the career total of Siena Head Coach
Steve Karbowski.
The Saints lead the all-time series with the Bobcats 8-6-2, including a 4-3-2 mark since Quinnipiac joined the MAAC in 2013. The schools last met in the 2019 regular season finale, with the Bobcats earning a 2-1 win in Hamden.
In addition to Siena celebrating its Senior Day, the team will also be dedicating the match to raise money and awareness for Morgan's Message, and in honor of Suzanne Scanio. Morgan's Message is an organization which strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student athlete community, and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. Morgan's Message aims to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone. The team will be collecting donations during the game to support the cause named in honor of Morgan Rodgers, a Duke Women's Lacrosse student athlete who passed away in 2019. For more information, visit morgansmessage.org. Additionally, the Saints plan to wear pink tape around their wrists as part of breast cancer awareness month and to honor senior
Morgan Camarda's friend's mother Suzanne Scanio, who passed away exactly one year ago today from breast cancer.
