The Saints have clinched consecutive MAAC Tournament appearances for the first time since the 2015 & 2016 campaigns, and have now done so during each of the first two seasons under head coach Graciano Brito. The Saints fell in a 1-0 decision to 2020-21 Regular season Champion Quinnipiac back on April 11, and will take the field at home in postseason action for the first time since advancing over Monmouth in a shootout on November 5, 2016. The Saints have never advanced past the MAAC Semifinal round in program history, and will look for their second-ever postseason win over the Broncs, who advanced in a shootout over Siena in a shootout, and carried a 3-2 win in the MAAC Semifinals in 2015. Siena defeated Rider in the first round of the 2007 MAAC Tournament, setting the program postseason scoring record with a 6-2 victory as the number eight seed in that year's tournament.

Siena will look to continue late-season success into postseason play, currently riding three-match win and four-match unbeaten streaks. The Saints outscored opponents, 9-2 over their final four regular season contests, with three of those four games coming inside the friendly confines of Hickey Field. The Green and Gold have already accumulated the most wins in a single season (nine) and most victories at home (six) since the 2014 campaign, while accumulating the most MAAC triumphs (five) since 2016. The Saints are entering the MAAC tournament with their highest seed since playing as the three seed in 2016.

Sunday's affair will feature a battle between the top scoring offenses in the league, with Rider having scored the most goals (35), second-most points (98), and most goals per-game (5.76) on the year, while Siena leads the conference in assists (36), ranks second in points (92), and third in goals (28). The two teams met just eight days ago, with Siena capturing a 2-0 shutout victory at Ben Cohen Field in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The Saints own the second-most shutouts (five) among league teams this season, and have recorded the most points, goals, and assists in a single game this year, with all coming in the team's 5-1 home win over Canisius on October 27.

The Green and Gold boast 17 different point scorers following the regular season, the most in a single season since the 2002 campaign (19). The offense is led by youth, with freshman Jacob Sandun Arachchige-Jensen's 17 points by way of five goals and seven assists leading the way. The Denmark product ranks third in the league in helps, and has recorded at least one point in eight games this year. Sophomore Bilal Hersi has also added five goals, while freshman Zach Gardner (three goals, three assists), fifth year Jacob Pacheco (four goals, one assist), freshman Frederic Storodegard (two goals, four assists, sophomore Cole Hellert (two goals, two assists), sophomore Nick Fernandes (two goals, one assist) and freshman Thomas Storodegard (two goals, one assist) have all each scored multiple goals.

The Saints' solid back line of Pacheco, redshirt-junior Antonio Linge, freshman Jesper Schone Vogtengen, and freshman Henrik Winkelmann has helped the team hold opponents to a .097 shot percentage on the season. Senior goalkeeper Greg Monroe leads the MAAC in saves (87) and saves per-game (4.83), while continuing to climb up the team's record book ranks. The Clifton Park, NY native enters the postseason at second all-time in both matches (61) and minutes (5620) played among Siena goalkeepers, tied for second in career goalkeeper wins (20), tied for third in career shutouts (10) and fifth in saves (281).

After already claiming victory this season over the Broncs, the all-time series is now deadlocked at 12-12-5 since 1997. The Saints picked up their first win over Rider since 2017, which also marks the last time the team beat its conference counterpart at home. Rider has taken seven of the last 10 head-to-head meetings, including the beforementioned MAAC Semifinal shootout advantage in 2016. Each of the last four meetings have resulted in a shutout, with Rider on the winning end of three of those games.

A five-time MAAC Champion in 1997, 1998, 2015, 2016, and 2018 Rider enters Sunday's match on a two-match losing skid, having allowed Manhattan to sneak into postseason action in its regular season finale with a 2-0 loss, The Broncs conceded 2-0 shutout decisions in each of its final two matches, despite having won three straight and gone on a four-match unbeaten streak before that. Three of the Broncs' 16 different point scorers on the season have gone into double-digits, with senior forward Zaki Alibou's 25 points leading the way. The Morocco native ranks second in shots &77), tied for second in goals (10) and tied for second in points entering the postseason. Goalkeepers Pablo Gatinois and Guillaume Veinante have split time in-goal this season, holding a cumulative 1.87 goals-against-average.
