Women's Soccer Hosts Canisius on Senior Day

Saints Look to Build Off Impressive Opener

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Women's Soccer looks to build upon the largest season-opening win in program history when the Saints host Canisius on Senior Day at 4 p.m. on ESPN3 at Hickey Field. Prior to kickoff, Siena will honor its five seniors - captains Sophia Dimkopoulos and Deanna Lomino - and classmates Darby D'Angelo, Jayanna Monds, and Rachel Sullivan

Due to current COVID-19 protocols enacted by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Council of Presidents, fans are not permitted to attend Siena home games at this time.

A.J. Kanell and Isis Young have the call of the match on ESPN3. The broadcast is available by clicking the corresponding link, on smartphones and tablets via the ESPN app, and on televisions through Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Playing for the first time in 512 days and, following a pair of COVID-19 related pauses which further delayed the start to their unique 2021 spring season, Siena (1-0) came out gangbusters in their season-opener Thursday vs. Iona. The Saints erupted for five first half goals - three of which came within the first nine minutes of action - in a 6-0 rout of the Gaels, which marked both the most goals scored and largest margin of victory in a season-opener in the program's 41 seasons. Juniors Emily McNelis and Carrie Krohn led the way each scoring twice, with McNelis finishing with a match-high five points. Junior goalkeeper Leslie Adams made six saves to secure the clean sheet in her collegiate debut.

Siena took to the turf well, winning its first-ever match on Hickey Field. The contest was just the Saints' third-ever at the facility, following a 2008 MAAC Semifinals shootout defeat vs. Fairfield and a 2-1 overtime loss against Rhode Island on Sept. 13, 2013.

Canisius (0-3) has dropped each of its first three matches this spring, suffering shutout defeats vs. Niagara and at both Manhattan and Monmouth. The Golden Griffins have been outscored 5-0 to open their 2021 campaign, and have gone scoreless for the past 333:44 dating back to their 2019 finale.

Siena has doubled up Canisius in the all-time series 20-10-1, and is 8-1-1 over the last nine matchups beginning with the Saints' victory over the Golden Griffins in the 2010 MAAC Championship Match to register the program's first title. Siena captured the most recent meeting vs. Canisius 2-1 here in Loudonville in 2019. Then-sophomores Darby D'Angelo (70') and Jayanna Monds (77') each tallied second half scores as head coach Steve Karbowski became the first coach in MAAC Women's Soccer history to win 100 conference regular season contests. Karbowski enters today's match with 102 career MAAC Regular Season victories to his name, just one shy of current pacesetter Peter Veltri of Niagara.
