LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Women's Soccer returns to the Capital Region for its first home game in nearly two full weeks - and first match of any sort in eight days - when the Saints host New Hampshire in a non-conference tilt Thursday at 3 p.m. at Siena Field.
Siena (2-3) enters play looking to snap a three-match losing skid and move back to .500 on the young season. Following a grueling, weather-affected four matches in nine-day stretch, the Saints should be well-rested and rejuvenated having had eight days to recover from a 2-1 setback at Sacred Heart on Sept. 1.
Siena brings a balanced offensive attack into play. While no Saint has yet to score more than one goal this season, seven different players have registered exactly one goal, with the team's other tally coming courtesy of an own goal. Siena is averaging a healthy 1.6 goals per match so far.
Defensively,
Leslie Adams and
Brooke Boermeester have served as a 1-2 punch between the pipes, collectively averaging 6.0 saves per match to go along with a .789 cumulative save percentage. Boermeester has made three starts while Adams, the reigning MAAC Goalkeeper Player of the Year, has started twice thus far.
Today marks the third of four non-conference home matches this fall for Siena, which has achieved a 77-28-15 (.704) overall record in Loudonville over the past 14 seasons, including a stellar 38-10-3 (.775) mark in non-conference action.
New Hampshire (1-3-1) is coming off a 2-0 loss at Syracuse Sunday, and looking to snap a four-match winless streak since a season-opening 3-0 win over Merrimack. Today's contest marks the start of a season-long four-match road trip for the Wildcats, with contests at Boston University, Hartford, and UAlbany to follow. UNH was projected to finish fourth (out of 10 teams) according to the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, after posting a 5-2 record during their abbreviated spring season. New Hampshire returns Second Team All-Conference honorees Francesca Picicci and Alivia Kelly, and All-Rookie Team selections Kelly and Anna Hewlett.
Siena is undefeated all-time vs. New Hampshire, holding a 4-0-1 mark in the all-time series. The programs last met in the 2016 season-opener for both, battling to a scoreless tie in Durham.
Today's match can be viewed via Siena All-Access, which can be watched free of charge by simply logging onto sienasaints.com/watch or by clicking the corresponding link. A total of eight women's soccer home matches are scheduled to be broadcast this fall, including four on the ESPN Family of Networks.
