LOUDONVILLE, NY– Siena Cross Country & Track Head Coach John Kenworthy announced the return of former Siena student-athlete Andrew Canavan to the team as its newest Assistant Coach. A four-year member of the cross country & track program, Canavan joins Kenworthy and assistant coach Nick Miller on the team's coaching staff.
"I'm very excited for Andrew to join our staff," Kenworthy said. It's exciting to be able to continue expanding our staff and grow our program. As an alumnus, Andrew understands Siena as a school and as a community. His experience in college coaching is a valuable layer on top of his experience as a student athlete here in Loudonville, and I'm sure both will blend together to make him an extremely valuable resource for our student athletes."
A 2019 graduate of Siena, Canavan spent the past three years as an Assistant Coach with the cross country and track program at nearby Union College in Schenectady, NY. While at Union, he served as the primary assistant for the cross country teams, as well as the distance coach for the indoor and outdoor track programs.
Canavan received his Track and Field Technical Certification, as well as his Endurance Event Specialist Certification from the USTFCCCA in 2021.
He earned his Bachelor's in Psychology from Siena in 2019, and was a four-year member of the Saints' cross country & track program from 2015-19. He finished his collegiate career ranked 13th in program history in the cross country 8k and second in the men's 10k.
