LOUDONVILLE, NY – As part of the Fall 2022 National Signing Day activities, Siena Softball head coach Casey Bump announced the addition of five newcomers to the program as part of the incoming class of 2027. The announcement comes following the team's most successful campaign in program history, which saw Siena advance to the 2022 MAAC Championship Game.
"This is a great group of student-athletes that we look forward to getting on campus," Bump said. "Not only are they all strong athletes, they are also outstanding students. That is the standard here at Siena, and these young women certainly live up to that standard."
Chloe Cummings | Infield/Outfield | Mountain View, California | Saint Francis HS
A Second Team All-League selection and Second Team All-CCS honoree during her junior campaign, Cummings was named one of the top-ten preseason players in Northern California prior to the year. Her team was ranked as high as third in the state and 20th nationally, and took home West Catholic Athletic League, Central Coast Section, and NorCal titles. Named a MaxPreps Underclass All-American during her sophomore campaign, she pitched a perfect game with 13 strikeouts last season. Both her father (basketball) and mother (rugby) competed collegiately at Chico State University, while her sister is committed to play softball at San Jose State.
Coach Bump on Cummings: "Chloe is a pure athlete. She can play middle infield, third base, and outfield. She brings speed, a strong arm, and is a gap-to-gap hitter. She has the potential to be an impact player in Loudonville."
Gracie Goewey | RHP/Outfield | Bend, Oregon | Bend HS
A two-time First Team All-State selection in the outfield, Goewey was named the All-City Player of the Year for Bend in 2021, and led her high school team to the top ranking in the state in 2021, as well as a #3 ranking in 2022. Named the Most Outstanding, Most Inspiration, and Team MVP by her teammates, she is also very active in her community and in extracurricular activities outside of softball.
Coach Bump on Goewey: "Gracie is a very strong pitcher. She has a good combination of speed and movement to both sides of the plate, and she brings competitive energy to the circle. Gracie also swings a strong bat, so she will have the potential to help us out both defensively and offensively. We are excited to have her as a Saint."
Mary Mikalsen | Infield/Outfield | Cold Spring, NY | Haldane HS
A New York State Section One All-Section and All-League honoree, Mikalsen was also named a LoHud/Journal News All-Star Honorable Mention selection. She was honored as a NYSPHSSA Scholar Athlete, played club softball for the Empire State Huskies National Team, and was named to both the National Honor Society and Principal's List in high school.
Coach Bump on Mikalsen: "Mary is pure energy! She flies around the field and lays out for everything. Another strong athlete, Mary can play multiple positions for us, which will make it easier to get her bat in the lineup. She has the speed to play outfield and the quickness, glove, and arm to play any infield position. It will be fun to watch her develop."
Alexa Panagopoylos | Infield | Atco, New Jersey | Hammonton HS
The Garden State product twice earned First Team All-Cape Atlantic League honors, and was also an All-South Jersey selection. She was named both the Courier Post Athlete of the Week and her high school's Athlete of the Season, and helped her team to a South Jersey Group 3 Sectional Title in 2021.
Coach Bump on Panagopoylos: "Alexa is a corner infielder who brings a power bat to Loudonville. She has good hands and a strong arm, but we think she has the chance to develop into a real impact, middle of the order-type power hitter. We are thrilled to have her coming to Siena."
Avamarie Perry | Infield | Pleasanton, California | Foothill HS
An All-League Honorable Mention selected in 2021 and 2022, Perry was named her team's "Most Valuable Defensive Player" last season. She is a team captain on both the varsity softball and basketball teams, and has played club softball for the Cal Nuggets 18U squad.
Coach Bump on Perry: "Avamarie is another strong athlete who brings a left-handed bat to our lineup with a swing that we think will develop impact power. She is also versatile and can play second base or corner outfield. We are pleased to get her to Upstate New York."
