Women’s Relay Record Falls to Begin MAAC Indoor Track Championships

Saints Set New Distance Medley Relay Mark to Begin Conference Meet

NEW YORK, NY – The Siena Women's Indoor Track distance medley relay team of freshman Claire Gardner, freshman Keira Flaherty, sophomore Jennifer McClintock, and senior Olivia Lomascolo re-wrote the program record books to begin the Saints' weekend at the 2022 MAAC Men's & Women's Indoor Track Championships at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York City Saturday evening.

Through one day of competition, the women sit in sixth place, while the men are in seventh, with each team scoring seven points to open the weekend.

Siena's women's DMR team placed third with a time of 12:00.04 to surpass the previous mark of 12:03.98 run by Morgan Serkes, Holly Bednarek, Julia Bryant, and Lomascolo in March 2020.  The performance included a split of 3:38.92 in the 1200-meter leg of the race from Gardner, good for the fastest 1200 split in school history. The Siena men's team of freshman Jackson Cayward, junior Ryan Famiglietti, sophomore Griffin Cooke, and junior Matthew Laframboise also placed third with a time of 10:08.82, with both marks qualifying the teams for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.

The Saint participated in one other final during the opening night of competition, with both teams scoring the running of the 5,000. Graduate student Aidan Canavan placed eighth in the men's 5k with a time of 14:45.12 for the fifth-best time in program history, while junior Elaine Atanasova also finished eighth with a mark of 17:37.17 for a personal best and the eighth-best mark in indoor track history. Sophomore Ryan Shanahan finished 10th for the men with a time of 14:46.58 for sixth-best all-time, while freshman Julia Caputo placed 11th for the women at 18:27.82.

Four members of the Green and Gold qualified for the final heat in the mile, including three on the men's side and one female competitor. Sophomore Killian McNamee (4:15.23), freshman Luke Tkaczyk (4:17.34), and junior Tommy Anderson (4:17.53) each qualified to return for the finals, with McNamee's time good for the fourth-best in school history. Junior Delia McDade Clay ran a time of 5:06.80 to qualify to return on the women's side.

Siena will finish weekend action at the 2022 MAAC Indoor Track Championships on Sunday, February 20 beginning at 5 PM on MAAC.TV.
