Indoor Track Strikes Gold Twice to End MAAC Championships

Olden, Lomascolo Win MAAC 3K Titles Sunday Evening

NEW YORK, NY – During a year which has brought MAAC weekly awards, broken school records, and unprecedented conference cross country finishes, Siena Indoor Track's Brandon Olden and Olivia Lomascolo walked away from the 2022 MAAC Indoor Track Championships with the ultimate prize. Both the men's junior and women's senior runners won MAAC Individual Championships in the 3,000-meter races to highlight a solid day of racing at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
 
Competing at the conference postseason meet for the first time in two years following the cancellation of the 2021 MAAC Indoor Championships, the women finished in sixth place as a team, scoring 30 points to record their highest finish since the revitalization of the indoor track program in 2016 and the second-best finish in school history behind a fourth-place result in 1991. The men scored 34 points to place seventh as a team, their best finish since placing fifth in 2019. Monmouth took home the MAAC Title in both the men's and women's competitions.
 
Olden ran a a time of 8:12.55 in the men's race, edging out Iona's Jonathan DeSouza by just over three seconds. The Chestertown, NY native secured the program's first men's individual MAAC indoor championship, and his second overall after winning the 10,000-meter race at the 2021 MAAC Outdoor Track Championships last spring.
 
Lomascolo won her first-ever MAAC title with a time of 9:37.72 in the women's race to best Iona's Nadine Donegan by over four seconds and land the women's program's third MAAC indoor track individual title, following Sarah Forman who won a pair in 2017 & 2019.
 
Elsewhere in the 3k, graduate student Regina Rosati logged the third-fastest time in program history to finish fourth at 9:47.20, while junior Aidan Gillooley placed eighth with a time of 8:27.70 to score a point for the men and sophomore Tom Ragone finished tenth (8:29.47).
 
The Saints also featured individuals taking part in the finals of the mile race, with junior Tommy Anderson placing fourth for the men with the third-fastest mile time in school history at 4:13.96. Sophomore Killian McNamee's mark of 4:14.79 was good for fifth all-time and a seventh-place finish, while freshman Luke Tkaczyk ran the sixth-best time and finished eighth at 4:15.02. Junior Delia McDade Clay ran sixth on the women's side with a personal-best time of 5:00.02 for the third-fastest mark in program history.
 
Siena finished out the weekend with both teams competing in the 4x800 and 4x400 relays. The men finished fourth in the 4x800 with the program's third-fastest time of 7:49.57, and took sixth in the 4x400 at 3:36.63. The women placed fifth in the 4x800 to also grab the third-fastest mark in school history at 9:31.43, and finished eighth in the 4x400 at 4:30.71.
 
Following the conclusion of the program's second conference championship of the 2021-22 year, Siena will look ahead to the 2022 ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track Championships March 4-6, which will feature Olden, Lomascolo, both distance medley relay teams, and other qualifiers in Boston, Massachusetts.
