LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Siena Outdoor Track continued its season by setting a relay school record at the Rider Outdoor Invitational in Lawrenceville, New Jersey Saturday. The Saints also saw a pair of runners compete at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia Friday evening.
The men's group of junior
Tommy Anderson, freshman
Jackson Cayward, sophomore
Killian McNamee, and junior
Matthew Laframboise ran a mark of 7:43.60 in the 4x800 meter relay to break the old top mark of 7:46.67 run last May.
Siena began its solid weekend of action with a pair of top 5k times run at the Virginia Challenge. Junior
Brandon Olden placed 21
st in the men's 5k with a time of 13:51.97 for the fastest time in the event in outdoor program history and the second-fastest overall. Senior
Olivia Lomascolo clocked a time of 16:31.08 to go just under four seconds off the school record. Olden's mark is the second-fastest 5,000 run in MAAC Outdoor Track this season, while Lomascolo recorded her second-fastest time of the year in the event.
Siena also saw a freshman record fall on the weekend, with freshman
Kayla Schmidt setting the mark for a rookie in the 3000-meter steeplechase, winning the event with a time of 11:19.65 for the second-fastest all-time. Junior
Nathan Poirier placed fifth on the men's side with a time of 9:46.25.
Three men's team members ran IC4A qualifying marks in the 1,500, with Anderson winning the seventh with the fourth-fastest time in program history at 3:52.52, junior
Aidan Gillooley finishing second with the fifth-fastest mark at 3:52.83, and Laframboise placing fourth at 3:53.96. Junior
Delia McDade Clay finished second with a time of 4:34.80, while graduate student
Regina Rosati went for the fifth-fastest mark in school history with a third-place finish of 4:36.72.
Freshman
Claire Gardner continued her solid rookie campaign by clocking the second-fastest mark in school history in the 800 with a time of 2:15.03, while junior
Ryan Famiglietti led the Siena men in the event with a mark of 1:59.45. Three Saints ran personal records in the 5k, with sophomore
Katharine Hesler taking fourth at 18:10.92, freshman
Christina Peppy running fifth at 18:13.31, and sophomore
Jimmy Smith placing 12
th in the men's race with a time of 15:17.94.
The women's 4x800 team of Rosati, freshman
Keira Flaherty, Gardner, and McDade Clay came 16 hundredths of a second away from joining the men in setting a school record, registering the second-fastest time in program history with a second-place finish of 9:18.76. The women finished tied for sixth as a team with 41 points, while the men placed eighth with 33 team points.
Siena will round out the month of April with a pair of competitions next week, as select runners will head to the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, while others will take part in the Capital District Classic hosted by RPI.
