LOUDONVILLE, NY – Members of the Siena Outdoor Track team participated in one final race before the 2022 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships next weekend on Saturday. The Saints put up solid times at the 2022 Capital District Classic hosted by RPI at Harkness Field in nearby Troy, New York.
The Green and Golf placed competitors in four different events, beginning with the 800. Junior
Ryan Famiglietti won the men's 800 with a personal best time of 1:56.55, while freshman
Chris Bertola took fourth with a mark of 1:59.19. Freshman
Keira Flaherty placed third on the women's side with a personal best time of 2:19.71.
Siena also boasted multiple winners in the 1500, with sophomore
Ryan Shanahan winning the men's race with a personal best time of 4:04.21. Classmate
Christopher DeForest ran second at 4:07.19, while freshman
Nathaniel Sletten took fourth with a time of 4:07.72. Junior
Elaine Atanasova won the women's race with the eighth-fastest time in program history at 4:47.22.
The women's 3,000-meter race was won by freshman
Kayla Schmidt who logged a personal best time of 10:16.07., while sophomore
Katharine Hesler (10:27.04) placed third and freshman
Christina Peppy (10:34.32) took fourth. Freshman
Collin Clinton led the men's field for the Saints with a fifth-place finish of 9:13.04.
Siena boasted both winners in the 5,000-meter race as well, with graduate student
Aidan Canavan winning the men's race with a time of 15:15.29 and freshman
Julia Caputo taking first in the women's race with a time of 18:04.25. Classmate
Noah Greski (16:01.57) also finished third in the men's race.
Siena will now gear up for the 2022 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, set for May 7-8 on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
