Siena Basketball Adds San Jose State Transfer Eduardo Lane

Fifth-Year Center to Complete Collegiate Career With Saints

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Basketball Head Coach Carmen Maciariello has announced his program's seventh addition for the upcoming 2022-23 season. San Jose State transfer Eduardo Lane, a 6-11, 240-pound center from Aquiduana, Brazil, will play his fifth and final collegiate season with the Saints this upcoming winter.

"Eduardo is a skilled, 6-11 center who is excited to play for Siena," said Maciariello. "He is a talented passer who will be a low block threat, as well as a defensive presence in the paint."

Lane matriculates to Siena after spending the past three seasons at San Jose State University, the last two of which he missed due to injury. He appeared in 25 games (seven starts) during his lone healthy campaign for the Spartans in 2019-20, averaging 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting a team-best 54% from the field in 10.2 minutes of action. Lane started the first six games of the 2019-20 season, and posted a season-high 11 points to go along with six rebounds vs. Air Force, and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds at UCLA.

Lane began his collegiate career with a two-year stint at Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa from 2017-19. He appeared in 53 games (28 starts) over his two seasons with the Tigers, averaging 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 60% from the field in 13.5 minutes. Lane was named an Honorable Mention All-League selection following his sophomore season in 2018-19, after averaging 9.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15.4 minutes of action spanning 30 games (17 starts). He scored in double figures in eight straight games midway through that season, highlighted by a 21-point performance vs. Kirkwood Community College.

Lane competed for Campinas High School in his native Brazil, where he averaged 21 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks during his senior season in 2016-17. He nearly averaged a double-double the previous year (9.9 points, 10.0 rebounds) while playing for Sep-Palmeiras in the U-17 league.

The signing of Lane, who hails from Brazil, adds to a burgeoning diverse global roster for Siena. The Saints are now set to have a total of six international student athletes on the squad's 2022-23 roster in Lane (Brazil), rising senior Jordan Kellier (Jamaica), rising junior Steven Lazar (Canada), and incoming freshmen Sveinn Birgisson (Iceland), Killian Gribben (Ireland), and Zekeriya Yigit "Zach" Tekin (Turkey).

Lane becomes the seventh official addition – albeit the first transfer and first non-incoming freshman – to join the 2022-23 Saints. Siena previously announced the additions of six incoming freshmen in Michael Eley yesterday, Birgisson Wednesday, preferred walk-ons Brendan Coyle and Gribben last week, and Tekin and preferred walk-on Mason Courtney last month.

Lane joins a Siena Men's Basketball program looking to build off its fourth straight top-three MAAC finish this past season.
