Young, Nash Named Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month for April

Student Athletes from Baseball & Women’s Golf Recognized

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Athletics announced the latest recipients of the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month honors Wednesday morning. Baseball redshirt junior Brett Young and women's golf junior Emily Nash earned the awards for excellence both in the classroom and on the field of play.

Currently in his second season with the Saints, Young is batting .302 this season through 29 contests, with 32 hits, nine doubles, three home runs, 20 RBI's, and a team-leading 23 runs and three triples. The Wynantskill, New York native has logged ten multi-hit games this season, including a 3-4 day with a three-run homer and four total runs batted in in the team's win at Niagara on April 22.

A sports communications major, Young holds a 3.77 cumulative GPA, and has been a member of both the MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

Also in her second year with the Green and Gold, Nash recently completed the 2021-22 season by placing 43rd individually at the 2022 MAAC Championships. She held an 84.70 scoring average over 20 rounds this season, participating in nine events and placing as high as third at the Hartford Fall Invite.

Nash owns a 3.87 cumulative GPA in finance and has been on the MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Academic Honor Roll, as well as a WGCA All-American Scholar following last season. She currently serves as the secretary for Siena's Student Athlete Advisory Council.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954 and was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
