Seth Van Schepen '22 and current fifth-year
Christian Watts were both selected in Saturday's National League Lacrosse Entry Draft. Van Schepen went 10
th overall in the first round to the Calgary Roughnecks, while Watts went in the fifth round to the Buffalo Bandits.
The pair of Saints is the most taken in the NLL Draft in one year, while they are the first selections of former Saints since Seth's brother Luke Van Schepen '18 was selected by the Rochester Knighthawks in 2018. Seth also becomes the program's highest draft pick, topping his brother's 16th overall selection in 2018.
Van Schepen, a native of Brampton, Ontario competed in 40 games for the Saints in his career, scoring 13 goals and assisting 32 for 45 career points. Serving as a team captain in 2022, Van Schepen helped the Saints to a 6-9 overall record and 3-3 mark in the MAAC. He earned multiple MAAC All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll selections.
A native of East Aurora, New York, Watts has played in 40 career games for Siena since 2019. He notched 56 career points on 47 goals and nine assists. 2022 was his breakout season, scoring 40 points on the season with 32 goals and eight assists. He averaged 2.7 points per game, and just over 2.1 goals per game. His standout performance came with a five-goal effort in a Siena 13-10 victory over St. John's.
Van Schepen will report to Calgary, while Buffalo will own Watts' rights after the fifth year competes at Siena this upcoming 2023 spring season.
