STATEN ISLAND, NY – Siena Indoor Track returned to action for the second straight weekend on Friday, taking part in the NYC Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.
The Saints saw their first school record of the 2022-23 indoor track season fall in the women's 4x400 relay, with the team of freshman Mattingly O'Rourke, sophomore Keira Flaherty, freshman Julianna Tourangeau, and sophomore Claire Gardner running a new top time of 4:16.64. The mark bested the previous school record in the event of 4:17.25, which had stood since May 2018.
Multiple Saints turned in individual times that were good to the top-five in program history in their respective events, highlighted by senior Brandon Olden's mile time of 4:07.76 coming nine hundredths of a second off of his own program record, which came last year at the same complex. Gardner ran a time of 2:58.27 in the 2,000 for a personal best to establish the new second-fastest time in the event in program history.
Fifth year Olivia Lomascolo took second in the mile with a time of 4:55.05, while senior Delia McDade Clay placed third at 4:59.29. Other top women's performances included junior Katharine Hesler taking second in the 5,000 (18:27.71) and senior Elaine Atanasova placing third in the 3,000 (10:04.22).
The Siena men claimed the top-two spots in the men's 5,000, led by sophomores Tom Ragone (14:56.51) and Nathaniel Sletten (15:03.82). Seniors Tommy Anderson (8:33.32) and Aidan Gillooley (8:39.62) went for fourth and fifth in the 3,000, while the team of sophomore Chris Bertola, sophomore Jackson Cayward, sophomore Luke Tkaczyk, and junior Griffin Cooke finished second in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:57.14.
