Women’s Tennis Wins Third in a Row; Rolls Past Monmouth

Brown ties all-time doubles wins mark

Fifth-year student-athlete Meagan Brown inched closer to etching her name atop the Siena's Women's Tennis record books, junior Alexa Wilson had another big day and the Saints rolled past Monmouth 6-1 to claim their third consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.

Brown and Wilson paired once together to earn a 6-2 win over Ann Spurka and Lauren Landstrom at the doubles #1 flight.

The win for Brown was significant in that it tied her with Ali Garrity (2013-2017) for most doubles wins all-time in program history with 53.

From the #1 singles position, Brown also won in straight sets by the scores of 6-2, 6-0 over Spurka.

The win put Brown in sole possession of fourth all-time in singles victories with 47 after entering the day in a three-way tie with Denisa Hluchova (2002-2006) and Allysa Singh (2012-2016), who each had 46 career singles wins.

Brown has a realistic opportunity to catch Julia Lebedev (2003-2007), who finished with 50 wins and Mitsuki Fakamachi (2013-2017), who closed with 53 wins. Sarah Mayer (2005-2009) remains the all-time leader in program history with 70 victories.

Wilson also was a two-time winner on the day, earning a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against Landstrom at the singles #3 position.

Senior Maanya Viswanath and Shelby Madeiros teamed together at doubles #2 to provide the Saints with the doubles' point after picking up a 6-2 win against Lana Brezanin and Jordyn Pax.

The Saints (8-9, 1-0 MAAC) won three other singles matches on the strength on their underclassmen including sophomore Laia Giralt and freshmen Madeline De Faber-Schumacher and Reegan Mullaney.  Giralt picked up her ninth singles win while Mullaney earned her third of the season.

De Faber-Schumacher improved to a team-best record of 12-3 in singles play this season by earning a 7-6 (11), 6-0 win against Pax at the singles #6 position.

Next, Siena will play Fairfield (5-7, 1-0 MAAC) in conference action on Saturday, April 1 at noon from the WAC Tennis Courts in Fairfield, Conn.
