The breaks did not go their way as Siena Women's Tennis dropped three of four singles matches that went the distance as the Saints took the hard luck 4-3 defeat to visiting Colgate at the Tri-City Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Saints once again started quickly by picking up the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
Meagan Brown and
Alexa Wilson took care of Amelia Galin and Emme Levenson 6-4 at the #1 spot while
Emma Boggiali and Giralt secured the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph against Addie Eklund and Eliza Podlas from the #3 position.
After winning in her only match on Saturday against Binghamton,
Laia Giralt capped a 3-0 weekend by winning from the doubles #3 position with Boggiali against Eklund and Podlas 6-3 and then topped Levenson 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 at the singles #2 spot in a match that lasted nearly two hours.
Wilson gave the Saints their third point by toppling Eklund in straight sets.
Senior
Maanya Viswanath and freshman
Reegan Mullaney each pushed their matches to a third set, but lost in tie-breakers while Boggiali fell in three sets and Brown was beaten in straight sets from the #1 singles position.
The Raiders improved to 6-3 on the season. The win snapped a six-game winning streak that the Saints held against them in the series dating back to 2016. Colgate now leads the all-time series 10-7.
Siena (5-8) will receive a 12-day break from action and will return to the courts at the Tri-City Fitness Tennis Center to host Sacred Heart (7-1) on Friday, March 17 at 6:45 p.m.
