Yanchoris Makes History

Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper is First Saint to be USILA D1 Scholar All-American for Second Time

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Lacrosse goalkeeper Christopher Yanchoris made history by being named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I Scholar All-American for the second consecutive year.

It's a feat that has not been duplicated in Saints' history as Yanchoris is the first student-athlete to earn this prestigious award twice.

After last season, Yanchoris became the fifth student-athlete in program history to earn the distinction joining prior Siena lacrosse alumni Matt Walsh (2006), Brent Herbst (2010), John Rogener (2011) and Kyle Curry (2014).

Presented by Blatant Lacrosse, the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities.

A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Each individual was evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Scholar AA committee.

Yanchoris (Masters of Business Administration) earned a 3.75 GPA for the spring semester and finished with an overall cumulative GPA of 3.85.

On the field, the Sykesville, MD native put together another star-studded season in which he was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team after helping the Saints reach the MAAC Championship Game for the first time in nine seasons.

Serving the team as a tri-captain, the graduate student earned a selection onto the All-MAAC Second Team as well as two MAAC Defensive Player of the Week nods.

Dependable with a heavy work load, Yanchoris spent nearly 1,000 minutes in goal (963:48), held a tidy 11.14 goals against average (ranked second in the MAAC) to go along with 184 saves (sixth in MAAC) on a .503 save percentage (fifth in the MAAC).

The Century High School product finishes sixth all-time in Siena Men's Lacrosse history in saves with 512 and is tied for fourth in wins with 15.
