Box Score STORRS, CT – Siena Men's Soccer began a rigorous four-match road trip by facing off with a high-major on the road in a primetime Labor Day matchup Monday evening. The Saints (0-4) fell to UConn (2-1) by a score of 3-1 at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at Rizza Performance Center in Storrs, Connecticut in their first-ever meeting with the Huskies.
The Green and Gold continued to struggle to settle in the early minutes of a match, conceding a score to UConn's Lucas Almedia in the 14
th minute of action. The Huskies found the back of the net again before the half on a set piece goal from Ayoub Lajhar in the 35
th minute.
Siena finally broke through on the board with its second goal of the season in the 62
nd minute of play, with junior defender
Henrik Winkelmann piercing a ball through the top left corner of the box via passes from freshman
Ben Biton and sophomore
Magnus Saaby.
Despite the Saints' gain in second half momentum, UConn put the match away with one more score by Eli Conway in the 78
th minute off a transition breakaway. The home team held 14-7 shots and 7-2 corner kick advantages.
Biton steadied six different Siena shot-takers with a pair of attempts, while freshman goalkeeper
Bennet Glinder made three saves in-goal.
Siena's non-conference action will continue on Tuesday, September 12 against defending national champion #1 Syracuse two hours west of Loudonville.
