Water Polo Splits to Conclude Bruno Classic

Saints Recorded Second-Ever 3-0 Start to a Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, MA – After beginning the 2024 season with a bang in an opening day sweep, Siena Water Polo looked to keep the momentum rolling into day two of the Bruno Invitational on Sunday. The Saints (3-1) rolled to just the program's second-ever 3-0 start in program history with a 20-11 win over Austin College before falling in a 13-9 decision to Bucknell at Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Siena 20, Austin College 11

In just its third all-time meeting with the Roos, the Green and Gold began the day with six of the first seven goals, and held an 11-5 advantage at the half. Seven different Saints scored a goal in the team's first 20-score output of the season, led by an overwhelming seven goals from freshman Catherine Williamson, who added two steals.

Freshman Lucia Fernandez Caballero and sophomore Finn Magill each added four goals, while freshman Rebecca Currie had a pair and junior Cece White, sophomore Bianca Kennerley, and freshman Sarah Tenney scored a goal each. Goalkeepers Caroline Behr and Maggie Frye split time in-net, with Behr recording seven saves and Frye adding eight.

Bucknell 13, Siena 9

In search of their first-ever win over the Bison, the Saints got down 4-1 in the first quarter, and were unable to overcome the early opposition. Bucknell powered through to lead, 12-6, after the third quarter, and held on despite a three-goal effort from Siena in the final period.
Williamson and Fernandez Caballero each closed out their collegiate debuts with a hat trick, while Kennerley, White, and freshman Parker Thomas added a goal each. Frye recorded six saves in-goal, while Behr added four.

Still off to the program's best start in 16 years, Siena's next action will come with three games at the Princeton Invitational February 17-18 in Princeton, New Jersey. The Saints will face off with nationally-ranked San Diego State and Princeton, and will look for revenge against Bucknell.
