Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, CA – Siena Water Polo wrapped its trip to the West Coast with two more contests at the Claremont Convergence in Claremont, California on Saturday. The Saints 7-8) took an 18-7 win over Cal State Monterey Bay before dropping a 16-10 decision to Pomona-Pitzer.
Siena 18, Cal State Monterey Bay 7
Facing off with CSU Monterey Bay for the first time since 2016, the Saints took control of things early with six of the first eight goals and an 8-4 lead at the half. The Team also netted ten of 14 total goals in the second half to finish with its second-highest goal total in a game this season.
Freshman
Catherine Williamson led eight different Siena scorers with a whopping seven goals, while sophomore
Parker Thomas also netted a hat trick and freshmen
Rebecca Currie and
Ava Pawlik added a pair of goals.
Caroline Behr recorded a pair of saves in-goal, while freshmen
Maggie Frye went for nine saves and three steals.
RV Pomona Pitzer 16, Siena 10
The Saints concluded the Claremont Convergence against the host Sagehens, who received national votes in the latest CWPA National Poll. Siena held a 5-3 goals advantage after one quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer battled back to knot the game at seven at the half. The home team then scored six of seven goals in the third quarter, and three of the final five to close things out.
Williamson recorded another hat trick, while freshmen
Lucia Fernandez Caballero and
Quincy Frommelt added two apiece. Behr had four steals in-goal and Frye had two, with each keeper recording three steals.
After matching its most non-conference wins in a season since 2011, Siena will head into conference play March 16-17 with three matches against conference opponents in Lexington, Virginia.
