Box Score 2 NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Another conference weekend for Siena Water Polo meant another couple of tough battles with MAAC opponents. The Saints (7-13, 0-5), dropped a 24-11 decision to Mount St. Mary's before falling in a contentious 14-10 contest against Iona at the Hynes Center Pool in New Rochelle, New York on Saturday.
Mount St. Mary's 24, Siena 11
The Mountaineers recorded six of the first seven goals of the game and led by five at the half despite the Saints netting five scores in the second period. Mount then ran away with things in the second quarter with a 13-7 advantage.
Sophomore
Parker Thomas and freshman
Catherine Williamson each recorded hat tricks to lead the Green and Gold, while five other Saints recorded a goal. Williamson also managed four steals, while freshman goalkeeper
Maggie Frye made three saves in-goal.
Iona 14, Siena 11
Facing off for the first of two scheduled meetings this season, Iona scored five of the first seven games and held a 7-4 halftime advantage following a slower second quarter. After trailing, 12-6, at the end of the third quarter, the Saints attempted a comeback with four of the final six goals of the game, but could not come any closer against their rivals.
After scoring once in the opening match, freshman
Lucia Fernandez Caballero netted four goals with three assists and three steals, while sophomores
Samantha Varrie and
Bianca Kennerley netted a pair each and Frye made 11 saves in-goal.
Siena will look for its first conference victory of the season next weekend when it takes on Mount St. Mary's and Marist on Friday, March 29 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
