Box Score 2 EMMITSBURG, MD – Siena Water Polo dropped each of its conference doubleheader games against Mount St. Mary's and Marist on Friday at the ARCC Swimming Pool.
The Saints (7-15, 0-7 MAAC) had two very different types of games play out.
Mount St. Mary's 10, Siena 9
The Saints held a 9-6 lead late in the third quarter behind the strength of four goals by
Catherine Williamson, who registered all her strikes in the third quarter alone between a three-minute and 56 second stretch.
Siena got a big lift from its freshman once again as
Lucia Fernandez Caballero had assists on two of Williamson's goals while
Rebecca Currie tallied three goals—all in the second quarter.
Saints goalkeeper
Maggie Frye made nine saves.
Beatrice Viera scored the winning goal with 4:51 remaining in the fourth quarter for the Mountaineers (13-10, 3-3 MAAC).
Mount St. Mary's held a slim shots advantage of 30-29.
RV Marist 20, Siena 9
Despite holding a 39-34 advantage in shots, the Saints found themselves in an 8-2 hole at the end of the first quarter that they would not able to surmount.
The Red Foxes (13-14, 3-1 MAAC) were led by Shinae Carrington (four goals, two assists), Ella Baumgarten (four goals) and Liana Hunt (two goals, seven assists).
Marist entered having played nearly half of its schedule against the top-ranked teams in the country including UCLA, UC San Diego, Pomona-Pitzer, Indiana, Michigan, Harvard, Arizona State, UC-Santa Barbara, San Jose State, Pacific, UC Irvine, and Wagner.
Williamson tallied two goals and two assists with a steal while Currie had two goals.
Frye made nine saves and had two steals.
