SMITHFIELD, RI – Siena Outdoor Track's
Claire Gardner continued what has already proven to be a successful season with a school record to kick off the program's third season of the year on Saturday afternoon at the Black & Gold Invitational in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
The Chestnut Hill, New York native won the women's 800-meter event with a time of 2:12.25 for a new school record, surpassing the old best mark of 2:13.05 run by program great
Sarah Forman '19 in 2019. Gardner now owns two individual program records, and is a part of five total including relays.
The Green and Gold kicked off outdoor season with the running of the men's 10,000 on Friday evening, with senior
Christopher DeForest leading the way with a time of 31:53.47.
The women's 3.000 steeplechase featured graduate student
Madeleine Hesler narrowly missing the program mark with a winning time of 10:51.96, while junior
Luke Tkaczyk (9:54.55) and freshman
Connor Thomas (9:57.46) finished first and second on the men's side.
Junior
Keira Flaherty took first place in the women's 1,500 with a time of 4:37.98, while fifth year
Matthew Laframboise led on the men's side with a fifth-place time of 3:58.28.
Sophomore
PJ Dauer (2:04.31) and freshmen
Olivia Armenia (19:29.41) led the Saints in the men's 800 and women's 5,000, respectively, while sophomore
Tyler Greene placed fourth in the men's 5,000 with a time of 14:43.51.
Both teams took fourth in their respective 4x800 and seventh in their respective 4x400 relay events.
The team will next be in action at the RPI Night Under The Lights on Friday, April 12.
