LOUDONVILLE, NY – After battling away from home for the majority of the year, Siena Water Polo is set to return home to conclude its 2024 season. The Saints will host MAAC foes Marist and Iona at the Siena Swim Center on Saturday, April 13 at 10 AM and 5 PM, respectively, while the Red Foxes and Gaels will square off in neutral site competition at 1 PM.
All three games hosted by Siena this weekend will feature live stats on The FOSH, and will be streamed live on Siena All-Access. The Saints' graduating class of seniors
Sydney Arnold and
Caroline Behr will be recognized prior to the start of the 5 PM game as part of the team's Senior Day ceremonies.
At 8-16 overall on the season, the Green and Gold will look to build on the program's most wins in a season since 2019. Siena recorded its first MAAC triumph of the year last weekend with a 19-9 win over VMI in Pennsylvania on April 7, featuring four-goal games from sophomore
Parker Thomas and freshman
Lucia Fernandez Caballero. The Saints will now face off against both Marist and Iona for the second time this season, having fallen to the Gaels, 14-10, back on March 23, and to the Red Foxes, 20-9, on March 29.
Boasting ten freshmen and ten returners on the season under the direction of fourth year head coach
Alex Williams, the Saints are led in scoring by freshman
Catherine Williamson, who boasts 61 goals and 12 assists for 73 total points, and also owns 31 steals. Thomas leads the squad with 34 assists and has 34 goals for a total of 64 points, while Fernandez Caballero and freshman
Rebecca Currie boast 50 points apiece. The goalkeeper tandem of Behr and freshman
Maggie Frye have combined for 250 saves on the season, including 149 for Frye and 101 for Behr.
The team has already set a new program record for the most MAAC weekly awards won in a single season, with four players combining for 11 awards on the campaign. Williamson has claimed six weekly honors by way of three Offensive Player of the Week and three Rookie of the Week nods, while Frye has won Defensive Player of the Week twice and Rookie of the Week once. Currie and Behr both took home honors during the most recent awards cycle in the form of Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Siena is 1-49 all-time against Marist and 1-46 against Iona since 2002 in each all-time series. The team claimed a 13-5 win over the Gaels at home on April 24, 2021 in the program's first-ever win over a ranked opponent, while the lone win over the Red Foxes came on April 10, 2011, and featured a strong performance from newly-minted Siena Athletics Hall of Fame member
