Siena Women's Tennis student-athlete
Laia Giralt capped a 6-0 week (3-0 at doubles #1 and 3-0 at singles #2 position) by helping the Saints clinch a MAAC Playoff berth for an eighth consecutive season.
On Wednesday, she was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Association (MAAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the conference office for her performance.
Siena beat Marist on the road, Rider at home and Mount St. Mary's at home all the score of 6-1.
In doubles play, Giralt teamed all three matches with
Alexa Wilson to defeat Caterina Assi and Vihana Shresta of Marist 6-2 last Monday, then the duo defeated Agnese Cecarelli and Sofia Gutierrez of Rider 6-2 last Friday and followed that up by defeating Sofia Kostirko and Adriana Barney of Mount St. Mary's 6-2 this past Sunday.
In singles play, the Spaniard defeated Chloe Clements-Sorde of Marist 4-1 before Clements-Sorde retired last Monday, continued with a victory over Ceccarelli of Rider 6-4, 6-1 last Friday and completed the perfect week with a win against Ana Alvarez-Storni of Mount St. Mary's 6-0, 6-1 this past Sunday.
Giralt improved to 14-8 in singles play and upped her individual doubles record to 11-8.
The junior leads the team in wins for both.
Fourth-seeded Siena (5-11 overall, 3-3 MAAC) will take on No. 1 Fairfield (10-8, 6-0 MAAC) this Saturday from Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ in a MAAC Tournament Semifinal.
