Men Hold Steady, Women Move Up to Continue MAAC Golf Championships

Men Continue Lead, Women Improve in Round Two

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Siena Men's Golf continued to hold possession of first place while Siena Women's Golf turned in a nice improvement to continued action at the 2024 MAAC Golf Championships at Disney's Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida on Saturday.

The men carded a round of -3, 285 for the second straight day to hold a two-stroke lead over Fairfield through 36 holes on the par-72, 6,793-yard course at -6, 570, good for the third-lowest 26-hole score in program history and the program's lowest ever at a MAAC Championship event. The women improved 16 strokes in round two on the par-72, 5,847-yard course to hop La Salle for eighth place, combining rounds of 336 and 320 to finish day two at +80, 646, now seven strokes behind Niagara for seventh place.

The Siena men continue to hold a sturdy presence inside the top-three individually, with freshman Michael McConie following up a first-round score of 70 with a 68 today to tie Fairfield's Colin Summers for the top spot individually at -6, 138. Fifth Year Nolan Crowley followed up a round of 69 with a 71 to move into a tie for third at -4, 140. Junior Nick Lyons shot his second consecutive round of +1, 73 to tie for 13th at +2, 146, while sophomore Austin Giroux carded a round of 75 to split for 20th at +4, 148. After sitting out the opening round due to injury, fifth year Matthew Ferrari was active in round two with a round of +1, 73.

All four Siena women's players showed improvement in round two beginning with Junior Jillian Barend, who moved up eight spots with a round of +2, 74 to finish tied for 15th individually at +10, 154. Freshman Emely Kintzel improved three strokes with a round of 78 to tie for 28th at +15, 159, while sophomore Mackenzie Whitney improved three strokes from round one with an 82 to move into 35th at +23, 167. Freshman Isabella Silva turned in a four-stroke improvement to shoot an 89 and finish the day in 41st at +32, 175.  

The Siena men will look to lock up their second straight and sixth overall MAAC Championship when both teams finish the weekend with one final round at the 2024 MAAC Championships on Sunday, April 21 with tee times beginning at 7:30 AM.
