Outdoor Track Concludes Season in ECAC/IC4A Championships

Caputo reaches podium in women’s 3,000-meter, O’Rourke sets personal-best mark in 800m

The Siena Outdoor Track & Field team had a pair of individual and season-best performances as well as three finishes inside the top five in the 48th running of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)/IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of James Madison University in Fairfax, VA on Saturday.

Under rainy conditions, the Saints had several standouts on the day's competition to conclude the 2023-2024 season.

Among them were junior Julia Caputo, who earned third place in the women's 3,000-meter, finishing in 9:58.74.

Joining Caputo among top finishers was fellow junior Keira Flaherty, who earned a fifth-place finish in the women's 1,500 meter, running in 4:34.64.

The time was .44 off her top time, set three weeks ago in the Rider Invite. In the same race, sophomore teammate Chloe Poulos ran a season-best 4:47.67 to place 22nd overall.

It was all the more notable for Poulos, who was coming off hip surgery this past fall.

In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Madeleine Hesler turned in another top five performance with a time of 10:55.19 to earn four points on the scoreboard.

And, in the women's 800-meter, sophomore Mattingly O'Rourke ran a personal-best 2:16.02, topping her previous best time of 2:16.54 that she set last Saturday in the MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Rider University.

O'Rourke placed 21st overall in the event.

It was a bittersweet day for seniors Tommy Anderson, Matt Laframboise, Ben Guerin, and Hesler, who were running for the final time donning the Green and Gold.
"It was a solid finish to a really good year," said Siena Track & Field head coach Elizabeth DeBole.

"I am thankful for our senior class and they've set the bar high for the rest of the team.  I'm excited about the future and what it holds going forward.  We'll be looking forward to getting back out there for the cross-country season in the fall."

On the men's side of competition, Anderson clocked in at 9:19.98 for a top 10 finish while junior Luke Tkaczyk was in 16th (9:38.54) and freshman Connor Thomas closed at 19th overall (9:44.02).

Four runners represented Siena in the men's 1500-meter with Killian McNamee earning the best time on the squad as the junior finished in 3:54.53 to place 11th while Guerin (4:00.40), Tkaczyk (4:01.50), and Laframboise (4:11.41) were 23rd, 25th, and 29th respectively.

Laframboise also ran the men's 800-meter in 1:53.29 to end up 18th overall.

In the men's 5,000-meter, freshman Colin Brunelle placed 20th overall with a time of 15:28.68.
