Siena Men's Golf wrapped up first round action at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial on the par-71 Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, CT on Saturday. The Saints sit tied for eighth place out of 16 teams through the first 18 holes.
Of the 90 total players in the field,
Michael Broeker (+1) and
Dan Brooks (+1) sit tied for 17th, while
Nick Lyons (T-25, +2),
Connor Kiel (T-47, +4),
Austin Giroux (T-65, +6), and
Michael McConie (T-79, +9) follow.
In his collegiate debut, freshman Broeker holed out at +1 to tie with teammate Brooks through one round. Broker and Brooks each shot an even par-37 through the front nine - Broeker doing so with a birdie on two and an eagle on the par-five seventh hole. Brooks birdied conductive par-five holes seven and eight to highlight his first nine.
The duo went on to shoot one-over-par on the par-34 back nine, each birding a pair of holes.
Lyons opened his senior season with a solid outing, shooting +2 for the day. Shooting +1 on both the front and back nine, Lyons totaled three birdies throughout his round - one on the par-five seventh hole, another on the par-four 10th, before cloning out with his last on the par-five 18th.
After shooting four-over on the front nine, the freshman Kiel settled in to shoot an even par over his back nine. The rookie rounded out the par-four 10th hole and par-five 18th with birdies to highlight his afternoon.
Giroux rounded out the team's scoring, ending his day at +6 highlighted by a birdie on the par-three 11th hole. Reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year McConie was also in action on Saturday, finishing his round at +9.
The Saints will conclude the tournament on Sunday, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.
