Keira Flaherty and
Claire Gardner will remember this day.
It is not every day that you are crowned a track champion at the NCAA Division I level.
Let alone twice.
Running in their senior seasons at Siena, the two put all their hard work on display with Flaherty winning the one-mile in 4:52 and Gardner winning the 800-meter in 2:12.91 on Sunday's Final Day of the 2025 MAAC Indoor Track Field Championships at the Nike Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
Flaherty's time was just .14 off her personal best time when she ran the mile in 4:52.51 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University just three weeks earlier.
The Yorktown Heights, NY native's time on Sunday was nearly a second and half faster than the runner-up, Rider's Jordan O'Neill.
As for Gardner, the Chestnut Ridge, NY native ran just .66 off her personal best, when she ran a 2:12.25 at the Black and Gold Invitational in March of 2024.
Flaherty and Gardner were not done.
The duo teamed with
Jennifer McClintock and
Mattingly O'Rourke to win the 4x800-meter relay in 9:14.58 for the team's third gold medal on the day.
McClintock ran sixth in the women's 800-meter at 2:18.53 while
Chloe Poulos ran 10
th at 5:09.23 in the women's one mile.
Despite not competing in all events, Siena posted a respectful seventh place overall in the team standings with 34 points.
On the men's side,
Tyler Greene, ran fourth in the men's one-mile in 4:09.01, better than three seconds off his time from Saturday's qualifier.
Luke Tkaczyk (4:12.46) was about seven seconds faster than his qualifying time and placed sixth while
Marcus Homa finished in eighth place (4:19.38).
The men's 4x800 medley relay team of Conor Leahy, Paris Porter,
PJ Dauer and
Jake Passalugo was fourth (7:50.51).
The men's 4x400 medley relay of Smith, Porter, Dauer, Frattarola and Murphy placed ninth with a time of 3:30.14.
Overall, the Siena were ninth with 31 points earned.
