Baseball Alters Weekend Home Series Against Sacred Heart

Teams Now Set to Open Series With Doubleheader Friday at Noon

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Following 22 straight games off campus to open the season, Siena Baseball is finally set to make its long-awaited Connors Park debut this weekend. However, due to this weekend's inclement weather forecast, the Saints three-game series vs. defending Northeast Conference Regular Season Champion and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference newcomer Sacred Heart has been altered. The teams will now open with a doubleheader Friday beginning at noon, with the series finale to be played either Saturday or Sunday pending weather.

Siena (5-17, 2-4) was initially set to host its first games at Connors Park this spring with its conference-opening series Mar. 7-9 vs. Manhattan, but the series was moved off site due to field conditions. Nonetheless, Mar. 28 will mark the Saints earliest on-campus home-opener in four years.

Siena looks to gain a foothold in the early going of conference play after having dropped two of three in each of its first two league series against both the Jaspers and then last weekend at Fairfield. However, the Saints handed the four-time defending MAAC Regular Season Champion and preseason favorite Stags just their 16th league loss spanning their previous 106 MAAC tilts.

Siena continues its first and only scheduled five-game week this season looking to build off its most complete performance this spring. The Saints posted their highest scoring output of the season to secure their first mercy rule victory of the spring with a 13-1 triumph at Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday. Siena, which had entered play averaging just 3.7 runs and had totaled only 11 over their previous four games combined, cracked double digits in scoring for just the third time this season. Moreover, six Saints hurlers combined to allow zero earned runs for the first time this season, lowering the team ERA to 8.16.

Staff ace Alistair Morin is set to take his lead turn in the rotation Friday, looking to build upon a strong start to his season. The red-shirt junior enters the weekend ranked second in the MAAC amongst all qualifiers in ERA (2.54), tied for second in strikeouts (33), and fourth in opponents batting average (.210).

Sacred Heart (11-11, 6-3) arrives in Loudonville one of four teams off to a 6-3 start in the MAAC, trailing only frontrunner Fairfield (5-1) at the early juncture. The reigning NEC Regular Season Champions won 35 games a year ago and were projected to finish third in their first season in the MAAC.

The new MAAC foes have met just twice previously, splitting a pair of games 50 years ago back in 1975.
