LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Basketball Head Coach
Gerry McNamara has announced the first official transfer to join the Saints 2025-26 roster. Rotterdam, New York native Riley Mulvey, who spent the past four seasons at Iowa, is returning home to complete his collegiate career in the Green and Gold.
Â
"We are really excited about Riley joining our program," said McNamara. "He is a local product that gets to finish his career here at home. Riley has such a high basketball IQ, and is the ultimate teammate. Adding someone of his caliber and experience is a big addition to our roster!"
Â
A 6-11, 245-pound center, Mulvey matriculates to Siena as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining. The Capital Region native appeared in 48 games (two starts) during his time at Iowa (2021-25), averaging 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds spanning 5.6 minutes while shooting 59% from the floor. Mulvey, who red-shirted during the 2023-24 season, was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and 2023-24 NABC Honors Court honoree. Â
Â
Mulvey played in a career-high 19 games this past season at Iowa, while making his first two collegiate starts. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.3 minutes, while shooting 68% from the floor.
Â
Mulvey becomes the second transfer into the program in recent years who played for former Siena Head Coach Fran McCaffery at Iowa, joining Michael Baer (2021-23).
Â
Mulvey played a pair of prep seasons at St. Thomas More in Connecticut, where he averaged 14.2 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks. He was the second-ranked 2022 junior in Connecticut before reclassifying, and ranked as the No. 5 player in 2021. Mulvey first played at nearby Albany Academy, where he averaged 12 points, 12.4 rebounds, and six blocks for a squad which was ranked No. 1 in the New York State Federation Class A in both seasons he was on the team. He played his AAU basketball for the Albany City Rocks.
Â
Mulvey's roots run deep at Siena. His father, Martin Mulvey '86, posted Siena Soccer single-season records of 41 points and 17 goals scored in 1984, and is second all-time in program history in both points (62) and goals (27). His uncle, Siena Athletics Hall of Famer and three-sport star Jack Mulvey '65, HOF '71, holds the Siena Basketball program career record of 15.0 rebounds, single-season record of 19.2 rebounds (1964-65), and single-game benchmark of 30 rebounds.
Â
Mulvey is the first officially announced transfer to join the 2025-26 Siena Men's Basketball team. Stay tuned in the coming days and weeks for the announcements of additional newcomers set to join the 2025-26 Saints.
