Burns Earns Jersey Mike’s MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Sophomore Achieved Unblemished Week in Goal

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Soccer sophomore goalkeeper Cate Burns has been heralded as the Jersey Mike's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The Spencerport, New York native achieved an unblemished week in goal for the Saints, holding the opposition scoreless while registering 10 total saves to secure her second and third shutouts of the young season, respectively.

Burns earns MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in her young career after receiving acclaim last Oct. 21 during her freshman campaign. On Thursday, she made three saves in a scoreless draw vs. Le Moyne. Burns wrapped the week with a seven-save shutout performance in a 0-0 tie on the road at America East Conference preseason co-favorite New Hampshire.

Burns has bequeathed one goal or fewer in five of her first six starts, highlighted by a conference-leading three clean sheets. She also ranks second in the MAAC in the early going in saves (26), third in save percentage (.813), and fourth in goals against average (1.02).

Burns and the Saints return to action when they host Sacred Heart in the conference opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hickey Field.
