LOUDONVILLE, NY – For a seventh consecutive season, the Siena Women's Lacrosse team was chosen to finish in the Top-Three in the annual MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll in a vote submitted by the league's head coaches. It was announced by the conference office on Friday.
With head coach
Danielle Schwan-Tetreault at the helm as either an assistant, associate or head coach, the Saints have equaled or surpassed their projected ranking on five of seven preseason polls with one unfinished season due to the pandemic.
Now in her third season taking the reins as the head coach, coach Schwan-Tetreault has led the Saints to a 22-15 record including 13-4 in MAAC play.
Playing as the No. 3 seed last season, Siena has reached at least the MAAC Championship Semifinals or better five times in the previous seven seasons.
Fairfield, who won its sixth MAAC Championship in the previous seven seasons, took the top spot by receiving 143 votes including 11 first-place votes.
Mount St. Mary's came in projected second with 122 votes while Siena received 118 votes with one first-place vote followed by MAAC Runners up Iona (107) in fourth place and Niagara (98) in fifth place.
Rounding out the top 10 were Quinnipiac (87), Sacred Heart (73), Marist (58), Canisius (52), Manhattan and Rider (31 apiece), and Merrimack (16).
Fairfield had four players named to the team including Preseason Player of the Year Kelly Haggerty, while Mount St. Mary's, Niagara and Quinnipiac each had two selections.
Iona, Canisius and Sacred Heart each had one selection.
