Box Score

KISSIMMEE, FLA. - The Siena College softball team (0-7) dropped a pair of games in the Rebel Spring Games played in Kissimmee, Fla. this morning. The Saints lost 9-7 to Towson University and 10-0 to the State University of New York at Binghamton.

In the opener, Siena battled back from an early 3-0 deficit to take a 6-3 lead after a five run fourth inning. Senior second baseman Christina Teator (Castleton, N.Y./Maple Hill) had put Siena on the board in the third inning with a solo homerun-the first of her career. In the five-run fourth, freshman Gretchen Gurr (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) closed the scoring with a three-run homer.

Towson regained the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the lead and three in the fifth. Chris Navarro and Sam Schaukowitch had two hits a piece for the victors. Senior co-captain Mary Buckheit (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) launched the first homerun of her career in the sixth to pull the Saints within a run, however, the Tigers answered with an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning to clinch the win.

Tisha Salamino (Las Vegas, Nev./Durango)suffered the hard-luck loss in relief. Salamino allowed just one earned run and struck out four batters in five innings of work.

In the second game of the day, Binghamton jumped on the Siena pitching early and often en route to an easy 10-0 triumph. The Bearcats used a seven-run third inning to put the game out of reach. Samantha Todd had two hits and three RBI including a homerun in the decisive frame.

Carrie Getz (Slingerlands, N.Y./Bethlehem) had a single in two at bats against Binghamton moving her impressive early-season average to .583. The eight-run rule was enforced following the fifth inning.

The Saints return to action against MAAC foes Niagara and Marist in sunny Florida tomorrow. Neither game will register as a conference contest.
