Senior Jodie Fiacco (Endicott, N.Y./Endicott) hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in game one of a double header with MAAC rival Marist today at Siena Field. The Saints and Red Foxes were tied at two when Fiacco went deep to give the Saints a win.
Fiacco hit another home run in the second inning. Marist would then plate a run in the third and sixth, but would not be able to defeat the Senior Co-Captain. Amanda Cavitt (Collegeville, Penn./Springford), a freshman pitcher came in to pitch two innings and get the win for the Saints, striking out three of the seven batter she faced and only gave up one hit.
In the second game, Marist scored twice in the top of the third, but a two-out single by Mary Buckheit (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and a follow-up home run by freshman thirdbaseman Sarah Rose (Loudon, N.H./Merrimack Valley) would bring the Saints back into the game. Starter Tisha Salamino (Las Vegas, Nev./Durango) struck out seven in her complete game loss, giving up the game-winning home run to Marist sophomore Kara Lacy (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire).
The Saints are now 7-19 overall, 3-5 in the MAAC. Marist is 9-22-1 and also 3-5 in the MAAC. The Green and Gold will return to the field for a four game homestand beginning on Wednesday, April 24 for a bout with Colgate at 3 p.m. The Syracuse Orangewomen will travel to Saints Field on Thursday, April 25 at 4 p.m. for a non-conference two-game series.
