LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Siena College softball team (4-14/2-0 MAAC) swept a conference doubleheader at Rider (7-20/0-2 MAAC) this afternoon. Siena won the first game 3-2 in eight innings and took the nightcap 4-2.
In the opener, Siena battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game behind the offensive efforts of Carrie Getz and Mary Buckheit who each registered three hits. With the score tied at 2-2 in the eighth inning, the Saints rallied to score the decisive run. Colleen Price started the rally with a two-out single to left. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored the game-winning run on a single to center by senior centerfielder Christina Teator.
Adrian St. Cin picked up the victory for the Green and Gold working all eight innings and allowing just the two runs. The Saints out-hit Rider 15-8.
Building off the momentum of the first win, the Saints struck for three runs in the first two innings of the nightcap. Sarah Rose, Chani Grant and Sara Procnow all had RBI base hits as Siena scored once in the first and twice in the second inning. The three runs were more than enough for freshman starter Tisha Salamino who worked a complete game allowing only seven hits while striking out two Bronce.
Siena has now won three of its last four games after opening the season 1-13.
The Saints will next be in action at Holy Cross on Thursday.
