Siena College junior outfielder Carrie Getz (Slingerlands, N.Y./Bethlehem) is ranked 18th nationally in batting average according to the NCAA's most recent Division I softball statistics report released Monday. Getz, a preseason First Team All-MAAC selection, currently holds a .442 batting average after entering the week hitting .440.
Getz, an All-Area/All-Suburban selection in softball and soccer at Bethlehem HS, has maintained an average of well over .400 all season. The 5-8 leadoff hitter has 46 hits (45 singles) in 104 at bats this season. She has led a resurgence that currently has the softball team in the brink of its first MAAC Tournament appearance.
The Saints have won four consecutive league games, improving to 7-5 in MAAC play, and close out their season with four crucial MAAC contests this weekend. Getz and the Saints travel to Buffalo to take on Niagara on Friday afternoon before returning to Loudonville on Sunday as they close their regular-season with an 11 a.m. twin-bill against perennial powerhouse Canisius College.
