The Siena College softball team began play today in its first MAAC Championship since 1995, but prior to the first pitch, four Saints were recognized for their efforts in helping create the most successful conference season in school history. Junior centerfielder was named First Team All MAAC, while Adrian St. Cin, Sarah Rose, and Tara Campbell were all named to the conference's Second Team, and senior Christina Shiffman was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team
Getz, a junior from Slingerlands, N.Y. (Bethlehem HS), enjoyed perhaps the greatest offensive season in school history. She entered the week ranked seventh nationally in batting average (.471), and second in the Northeast. Her 57 hits this season entering the Championships are the most in school history, breaking her own record of 51 set last season. Getz, a preseason All-MAAC selection this season, was named to the conference's Second Team last season.
St. Cin, Rose and Campbell made their first appearance on an All-MAAC team. St. Cin batted .294 with four home runs as the Saints everyday clean-up hitter and first baseman. She also added depth to the pitching circle late in the season filling in for an injured teammate. Rose, a sophomore captain batted .327 with 36 hits in a breakout season for the Saints. The third baseman anchored the middle of Siena's lineup all season batting third. Freshman Tara Campbell, the team's pitching ace, rounded out the All-League selection. Campbell was the main reason behind the team's late-season surge to the conference championships, fashioning a 7-8 overall record and a 2.55 earned run average.
Shiffman, the lone senior on the team, was the Saints only representative on the MAAC All-Academic Team. The reserve outfielder carried a 3.21 grade point average in English. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete at least two semesters at their institution, be a starter or significant reserve and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
