Jennifer Granato had three hits and drove in four runs in the opener, and freshman Jamie Piela picked up her fourth win of the season as Siena took the first game at Morehead State 5-1 Thursday. Morehead State rallied for a 4-3 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, Granato, Jennifer Griner and Piela each had multi hit games and Siena struck for all five runs in its first two at bats. Piela was also strong in the circle, scattering six hits and allowing just one run in picking up the complete game win and evening her record at 4-4.
Siena out-hits MSU 9-6 and Granato homered and doubled to account for the big hits in the game.
Morehead State scored twice in its first at bat to build an early lead in the nightcap. Leadoff hitter Bri Jones had three hits, scores one and drove in two runs.
The Saints rebounded and struck for three runs in the sixth inning. Stacey Lindini, who had two hits in the game, drove in one of the runs, and Griner was also credited with an RBI.
Piela came back in on the circle to relieve senior Tara Campbell, who pitched well, and gave up the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. MSU struck twice to secure the 4-3 win and doubleheader split.
Siena returns to action this weekend in the Mercer Nissan Invitational.
