Final Stats
Mercer used a four-run fourth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and pulled away for an 8-2 win over Siena in the final day of competition in the Mercer Invitational Sunday. Kelly Boyle had a two-run double in the third to give Siena a brief lead.
Jamie Madruga put Mercer (9-15) on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left field. Siena (6-15) answered with a pair of runs in the third off Mercer starter Stephanie Rossman. Boyle doubled to center field, driving in two runs and giving the Saints a 2-1 lead.
The Bears exploded for four runs in the fourth, sending 10 batters to the plate. Madruga tied the game at two with an RBI-single up the middle that drove in Kristin Talamantes, who doubled to lead off the inning. C.J. Martin broke the tie with a double to left, bringing home Madruga and pinch runner Korina Fryslie. Kelly Bretscher drove in another run with an infield single, giving Mercer a 5-2 lead.
Alyson DeMarino and Jennifer Granato had hits for the Saints.
After getting out of a jam in the third with just giving up two runs, Mercer starter Stephanie Rossman settled down. The junior struck out 15, including the final three batters of the game, while surrendering just three hits.
Mercer added three runs in the sixth. Bretscher singled through the left side to drive in Crystal Condra from second while Martin moved around the bases and scored on a throwing error by the center field. Talamantes drove in Bretscher with a sac fly to center, giving the Bears an 8-2 lead.
Madruga led the Bear offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Martin and Bretscher each collected two hits and a pair of RBI.
