March 29, 2006

Final Stats

Junior Kelly Boyle blasted a game-winning two-run homerun over the left field fence with two outs and a runner on in the bottom of the seventh to give the Saints (7-18) an 11-10 victory over cross-town rival UAlbany on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints split decisions with Albany after dropping the opener, 9-0.

Freshman Rachelle Morales and senior Jamie Walker accounted for Siena's only two hits in the first game. Albany's Megan Larsen went 4-4 with three singles and a two-run homerun to lead the Great Danes.

Siena's Tara Campbell pitched four and a third innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. Freshman Renee Clavette put in one and a half innings of relief, allowing four runs on three hits. Albany's Casey Halloran went the distance, pitching six shutout innings while allowing just two hits.

In the nightcap, Boyle led the Saints offensively, going 4-5 with six RBI, including a grand slam and a two run homer.

After Albany posted two runs in the first inning, the Saints countered with four of their own in the bottom half on Boyle's grandslam over the right centerfield wall, making the score 4-2.

Following an Amber Maisonet solo home run in the third inning, the Great Danes tacked on an additional run in the fourth when Katie Desimone drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 4-4.

The Saints rallied in the fourth when junior Jennifer Griner blasted a solo home run, followed by a two run shot by teammate Stacy Landini, which gave the Saints a 7-4 advantage.

After a four run Albany fifth, the Great Danes tallied two more in the sixth when senior Ashley Rios knocked a two run triple into left-center to increase their lead, 10-7.

The Saints sliced the deficit to one in the sixth when, following a Walker single, sophomore Jennifer Granato hit a two-run homerun.

Campbell held Albany scoreless in the seventh, setting the stage for Boyle's game-winner in the bottom half of the inning.

Campbell was credited with the victory, as she pitched two and a two thirds, allowing two runs on five hits. Jamie Piela, who started the game, threw four innings, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits. Halloran was credited with the loss, her second of the season (10-2).

The Saints are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Buffalo to take on Canisius with a 2:30 start.
