Game 2 Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior Christa Fasano went 2-for-5 in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon, including a single that drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Saints (9-22, 2-2) prevailed over conference foe Saint Peter's (14-13-1, 0-4), 3-2. The Saints laid claim to victory in the opener by a score of 6-1 to round out a clean sweep of the Peahens at Siena Field.

Senior Tara Campbell went the distance in the first game for the Saints pitching seven solid seven innings, allowing five hits and one earned run. Teammate Jamie Piela pitched a complete game that extended into the tenth inning in game two. Piela struck out nine, allowing nine hits and two runs, one of which was earned.

The Saints tallied the first two runs of the opener thanks to a towering homerun by senior Kelly Boyle that sailed over the left field fence. Following a throwing error that allowed Piela to cross home plate, the Saints extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning when sophomore Jennifer Granato singled to left field, driving in teammate Andrea Piela.

The Peahens recorded their only run of the game in the fifth inning when sophomore Jess Gonzales homered to center field off of Piela, making the score 4-1.

The Saints added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth following a Renee Clavette double to left field which drove in two runs.

In the circle for the Peahens was freshman Tricia Reingle who was credited with the loss after throwing four innings, allowing five hits and four runs.

After the Peahens took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning of the nightcap, the Saints tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Jamie Piela doubled to left center driving in two runs.

Following four innings of solid pitching by both teams the game progressed into the 10th inning. After Piela retired the Peahens, Alyson DeMarino advanced all the way to second base as two Saint Peter's outfielders collided while attempting to catch her fly ball with one out. Fasano then stepped to the plate and sealed the deal with her single, giving the Saints a 3-2 victory.

Senior Michelle Blair was attributed the loss for the Peahens after pitching nine and a third innings, allowing 12 hits and three runs.

The Saints next face the Crusaders of Holy Cross on Thursday at Siena Field. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
