Final Stats
The Binghamton University Bearcats struck quickly on offense and used five pitchers to quiet the Siena bats in a 9-4 win on a rain-soaked Siena Field Wednesday. Both teams posted five errors in difficult playing conditions as Siena saw its six-game winning streak end.
Binghamton (26-16-1) scored a run in the first thanks to three Siena errors. The Bearcats added two runs in the third on RBI hits by Jeff Monaco and Ken Jacobi.
The Saints rallied to tie the game with three runs in the fourth. Senior Scott King doubled to leadoff the inning and scored on an RBI single by Chris Klepps. Jake Willis reached and scored on an error and Bill Lazio's sacrifice fly tied the game.
Binghamton broke the stalemate in the top of the fifth inning after a Monaco walk, a double by Ken Jacobi and an RBI single from Ryan James. The Bearcats would plate two more runs in the sixth innings on an RBI single by Hitchcock and a Monaco sacrifice fly that made the score 6-3. Binghamton would plate their final three runs over the seventh and eighth innings to ice the game.
Freshman Will Hassett answered the call on the hill for the Saints pitching into the seventh inning. Hassett gave up seven runs, five earned and eight hits over six and one third innings.
The Bearcats threw five pitchers. Seth Rademacker pitched two full innings and gave up three hits and three runs, but picked up the win. Siena managed just two hits outside of the fourth inning.
Senior Kevin Snyder came in to relieve Hassett in the seventh and allowed four hits and two runs.
Hitchcock led four players with multi-hit games with three hits for the Bearcats. No Siena player had two hits.
The Saints returns to action on Thursday as they travel to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst for a 4 p.m. start.
